Afrofuji Star Destiny Boy Dies at 22

Nigerian Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has died at the age of 22, triggering widespread mourning among fans and colleagues in the music industry.

The late singer, who rose to prominence as a teenager, was celebrated for his distinctive blend of traditional Fuji music and modern Afrobeat, a sound that resonated strongly with young audiences.

Destiny Boy began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji icon Pasuma, an experience that shaped his musical direction before he fully embraced recording.
He gained national recognition in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral on social media and launched him into the spotlight.

Building on the success, he released Fuji-inspired covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, growing his fan base across the country before transitioning to original music.

His discography includes tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

News of his death emerged on social media on Sunday and was confirmed by Bolisco, an associate of singer Habeeb Okikiola (Portable), who disclosed that the artiste had been ill before his death. He reportedly died in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by his family or management.

Videos circulating online show the late singer’s remains being transported and later arriving at his parents’ home in Ayetoro, Ogun State.
